Ruby Slippers

I don't know if it's because I've been pregnant for so long, or if it's because I've been sick and trapped staring at these same beige walls for almost a year, but this summer all I wanted to do was hop in the car and see some of our beautiful country.  And luckily, Trenton and I have three kids that love to travel just as much.  We decided to drive through Kansas to visit Heather on our way to Iowa for Tad and Linsey's wedding reception.  On our way we visited the Kit Carson County Carousel in Burlington, which happens to be one of my happiest childhood memories.  It did not disappoint.

Heather's home is lovely.  Within minutes of peeling ourselves from the car, we climbed onto their trampoline and laid under a blanket of vibrantly green trees while the kids played on the swing set in their giant yard.  It was about 75 degrees, and you could drink the air.  The sun was warm and big as it set, since there were no mountains for it to hide behind.

The next morning, Tim and Trenton went on an early run. Heather and I tip-toed out of the house as the sun was rising and explored some of the fancier neighborhoods in their county.  I can't believe people actually live in these houses.  When we got back, Heather treated us to a yummy breakfast of muffins, fresh berries, and these natural, hormone free, bottles of flavored milk.  Orange Dream, Cotton Candy, and Dutch Chocolate.  After breakfast we headed to the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.  The kids were in heaven!

Since Trenton had just emerged victorious from two "Biggest Loser" competitions at work, his priority was to have some serious Kansas City BBQ.  Tim took us to Jack Stack and...well- I'll let the picture speak for itself.  After dinner, we went swimming and relaxed at home. I wish we could have stayed longer.  It went by quickly, but the time spent was so wonderful.  Thanks Heather and Tim!
