Baby Chicks!

Trenton and I had been considering getting chickens for a while, but hadn't really made up our minds until visiting with Mike and Julie and their baby chicks on Mother's Day.  It took a little research on Trenton's part, but he showed up on a random Wednesday night with a small "pet" carrier full of tiny, baby chicks.  We woke Emma and Ben up and quickly introduced them to the adorable chickens.

We have six of them, three different kinds, including a few that are going to give us Easter-colored eggs.  We don't plan on eating them.  We don't intend on making a profit.  We understand that they are probably going to be more trouble than they are worth.  But they are truly precious, dimly lit, warm baby balls of fluff!

Their names are Sweetie-Belle, Salted Caramel, Butterfly, Butterscotch, Baby-Love, and Fly.  And they are growing FAST!  Sweetie-Belle is our only black chick, and during the first couple weeks, the other chickens picked on her to the point that she lost all the feathers on her bum and it was bleeding.  Trenton and I were sure she would not make it, but Emma took a tremendous amount of time nurturing her and loving on her and now she's thriving!  She is also the most beautiful out of all of them.
