Happy Halloween!

I used to secretly loathe my mother for going anywhere outside of our home in her curlers and bathrobe. I would say to myself, "Why? Why mom, do you have to embarrass me this way"? But this morning I woke up to the sound of the garbage truck and I thought, "surely Trenton put the trash out before he went to work. Especially since we forgot last week and it's now overflowing". I still hopped up to check and he hadn't. At that moment, I abandoned all self-respect and past bathrobe hatred and threw my fluffy pink robe on, sans hair curlers, and a pair of mismatched shoes. As I'm hurrying to pull the gigantic trash can to the curb, I'm doing my best to keep my robe closed in the wind and maintain some sort of dignity. I then look up to notice my neighbor, warming up his car...watching me. The only choice I had was to wave, smile, and make an apology call to my mom. Oh-and I had missed the garbage truck- so it was all in vain.

Last weekend we had our family Halloween party at Heather's house. We bobbed for apples, decorated cookies, made caramel apples, and had a costume contest.

Last night, we all went over to my mom's to carve pumpkins. My parent's always go all out when it comes to decorating for Halloween and it was fun seeing Emma play with the toys and decorations that I used to enjoy when I was a child. Our little ghost enjoyed squishing her fingers in the pumpkin guts...who doesn't?

Have a happy, safe, and candy-filled Halloween!

Pumpkins and Bears and Birthdays, Oh My!

We have been trying to enjoy every quintessential October activity and what a month it has been so far! Doug, Christy, their kids, Heather, Tim, their kids, Cathy, Hannah, Shannon, Deanna, Trenton, Emma and I went down to the Panteleo Farm to pick our pumpkins a couple weeks ago. They had all sorts of fun things to do, but it was absolutely freezing! It was pouring rain but we made the best of it and had a great time. The temperature actually made me get in the fall mood and made the spicy Mexican food we enjoyed after so much tastier!

Trenton and I took a yummy dinner over to my parents to share with Doug and his family. After, we helped my mom put out her Halloween decorations. Emma always enjoys being with family!

The weather warmed up enough for Trenton to get the retaining wall in the backyard done. He had been wanting to work on that thing for a long time and finally gathered enough wood from neighbors and friends that he was able to finish it for next to nothing. He is such a resourceful man!

To take full advantage of the warm weather- Doug and his family, my mom, Emma, and I went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was awesome! I hadn't been there since they made all the renovations and they had a lot of new displays. It was Emma's first trip to the Zoo and I'm glad I waited until she was a little older because she actually enjoyed herself and understood that these animals were different from her. Other than trying to eat the crackers herself, she enjoyed feeding the Giraffe until his tongue touched her fingers. She freaked and screamed enough to startle the animal. She loved the Grizzly bear the most, or maybe it was the fish that the bear was eating.

We celebrated Shannon's birthday by going down to Old Colorado City and window shopping in all the fun little stores. It was absolutely beautiful down there-with all the fallen, colorful leaves. We went during "Scarecrow Days", so there were dressed up scarecrow displays outside of each of the stores. We had dinner at "Jake and Telly's" which is a really quaint family-owned Greek restaurant. If you notice that Trenton isn't in any of the pictures from that night, it's because he was being a total jerk and was uninvited...that's right Trenton! I said it, and I'm not deleting it! (p.s. He has long since apologized and been forgiven:)
I also threw my friend Melissa a baby shower. She is expecting her new little girl, Maya, any day now! She is such a pretty pregnant gal!

Emma recently upgraded to the big-girl tub and she LOVES it. So much room to play and splash! This has been an especially fun month for her and so much is yet to come. She had her first lolly-pop the other day and you would have thought I gave the gift of sight to a blind woman! I wish I could remember what it was like when I was her age. Everything must be so exciting and everyone adores you!

Until next time!
