Befores and Afters

We have been busy.

We kind of relaxed during the cooler months, and with spring and summer deciding to combine into one season this year, it took us until July to get our butts in gear.

We have been dreaming of redoing the disgusting Formica countertops in our kitchen for as long as we've owned the home, but never really could come up with a good enough reason to justify the cost.  But as we were leaving Trenton's mom's house the other day, Tad offered a bunch of granite tiles that a friend had leftover from a project.  We literally had just enough to do the job.  I spent an entire day driving to seven different tile stores trying to find a match just in case there was a broken or miscut tile, but had no success.  We decided to take the chance and move forward with the project.  Luckily, Stephen and Jessica were staying with us when we decided to rip the counters off.  Hooray for free labor!  And I can't forget the help from our mini-laborers!

Once we got the kitchen finished, it was time to tackle the backyard.  We have a sloped yard, which is why we built the deck back in 2010.  We just needed to give the rest of the yard a little bit of lovin'.  I'm embarrassed it was ever that bad.  During the process of working on the yard, we discovered that Lyla loves playing in the dirt like a little piggy.  I tried everything, but somehow she kept managing to sneak out and get all muddy!  She must have had 4 baths a day during the time it took us to get the yard done.
