The Schlosser Hens finally reached the maturity needed to move into their coop. Trenton had a good time constructing the coop, and I had fun painting and "decorating" it. The chickens have been having a great time pooping in it. Unfortunately the day after I took these pictures, Emma and I walked out to find the dog and cat chewing on "Sweetie-Belle." Charlotte dug a hole near the corner, and Pumpkin squeezed in there to grab the chicken. I couldn't shield Emma from seeing the carnage and I'll never get the image of Emma throwing herself over the hen like a protective Mommy. Then Emma accidentally left the coop door open later that day and "Butterfly" escaped and succumbed to Charlotte's hunting skills. It was a very sad day at our home. With this in mind, I have tried to make our Summer as fun as possible. The kids are finally old enough to get outside and actually enjoy it. Shannon called us to play at the splash park down by her house, and the kids had a blast.
Later that night Cathy watched the kids for us while we went out on a rare date without the kids. We decided to take a walk along "Wood Avenue" which is one of the original streets in Colorado Springs with the old, gorgeous mansions that have survived over 100 years. Ahhhh, it was heavenly. It was about 75 degrees out, the sun was setting, people were riding their bikes and watering their lawns. Everything seemed exceptionally peaceful. It was almost like time had stopped and we were living in the late 1800's and people still had time to take care of their homes and lawns. After our walk we had my favorite Greek food from Jake and Telly's in Old Colorado City. It was so warm, and the air was uncharacteristically wet. It was perfect to sit outside and watch everything that was going on below the restaurant. It's too easy to forget what Trenton and I are like without the kids. Relaxed.
