Over the Hills and Through the Woods to Grandmother's House We Go.....

At the end of March we piled in the car for Emma's first road trip to Iowa. She got to meet her Great Grandparents, Grandpa Schlosser, Great Aunts and Uncles, Second Cousins etc... It was especially precious because Emma also got to experience her first stomach virus. And to make things even better...she shared it with her mommy and daddy!!! She is such an unselfish child when it comes to communicable diseases. Regardless of the incessant "# 2's" that we had to change along the way, it really was a fun trip. We rode out there with Trenton's mom and stayed with his Grandma Freda and Grandpa Dick. Tate and Patti came out too so it was an all out family extravaganza! Going back to Iowa is always a fun trip down memory lane for Trenton and Marshalltown is your regular "Mayberry". When going to Iowa you can always count on two things...Bingo and lots of yummy food.

Unfortunately I didn't win anything when we played Bingo, but I did get to enjoy a loose meat sandwich at "Maid Rite". That is a Midwestern treat that is to die for. I seriously ate three in a row when I was pregnant. They are greasy, and fattening and absolutely delicious with a squirt of mustard. You will be shot on the spot if you're caught putting ketchup on your sandwich though, so unless you're Canadian, you better use mustard. Did you ever watch the TV show "Roseanne"? Well, on that show Roseanne and her sister Jackie opened up a loose meat sandwich diner called the Lunch Box. It was based on Maid Rite restaurants! I am so glad I married Trenton...for the sandwiches if nothing else.

Emma got to meet her Great Grandma Paula, Grandpa Rick, and Great Aunt Sherry for the first time. That was really something. I've never seen Trenton's dad so choked up.

We also went to "Fairway", which is just IT when it comes to grocery stores in Marshalltown, Iowa. Of course they have a Walmart, but Fairway is like stepping back in time, with it's 1960's design and old-fashioned customer service. They get downright upset if you try and carry your own bags to the car! Trenton always gets his favorite dairy products there and stocks up on Iowa beef from the butcher. Can you believe they actually draw little smiley faces on their produce? Patti and I couldn't help but get a little silly. Patti is my future sister-in-law for those of you that don't know. She's marrying Tate in September in Estes Park.

Trenton and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary on April 9, 2008. Trenton was puking his brains out on our actual anniversary, so we celebrated together with soup and looked forward to the weekend when we could get out and enjoy some time together. We went and saw "21" which was awesome. Then we went to the Broadmoor's Garden Room for dinner and dancing. It was very romantic, but I missed Emma, as it was our first entire night away from her. Grandma Laurie had her for the evening so I wasn't concerned, but I still missed her. For kicks I tried to see just how romantic I could make our room.

Other than Iowa and our Anniversary, we have just been kicking back at home, enjoying life.  We got a new kitchen table, and traded our stove with Trenton's grandparent's flat top stove. Emma also got a new exersaucer from Grandma Laurie that she loves to stand and play in. And Trenton has really been working on getting the bulbs in the ground so we can have a beautiful garden here soon. That's pretty much the extent of our excitement for now. Life couldn't be better....
Until next time!

Love,
Janet, Trenton and Emma
